Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is the RC United Soccer Club a Non-Profit?

RC United Soccer Club is a registered non-profit organization, and none of our executive or board members receive payment for their roles. Our constitution specifically prohibits compensation for executive positions, ensuring full transparency and community stewardship. This policy does not prevent the club from hiring and paying staff such as coaches, coordinators, administrators, or field maintenance personnel, who support the day-to-day operations of our programs.

When will my team practice?

Youth (U11-U18) practice schedules are set by each teams coaching staff and depend on overall field availability. Once coaches confirm their weekly training times, they will share the finalized schedule directly with their players and families. Although individual team practices are coach-selected, squad practices and development matches will be pre-scheduled for the season by the Technical Director and included in the clubs master schedule.

Do I have to attend tryouts?

You do not have to attend tryouts for most teams, but Premier team selection requires attending at least two tryout sessions. Coaches use these sessions to properly evaluate players for the highest competitive level, while all other divisions allow placement without mandatory tryout attendance.

Do I have to attend assessments?

Assessments are required because they serve a different purpose than tryouts. While tryouts are only needed for Premier selection, assessments are used to evaluate all players so coaches can place them on the correct team or ensure teams at the same level are evenly matched in skill. In some age groups, such as when there are two U13 Girls Second Division teams, assessments help us create balanced rosters and a fair, competitive environment for everyone.

Are coaches paid?

None of our youth team coaches are paid. This is a deliberate choice to help keep registration costs as low as possible for families while maintaining a strong community-driven coaching model. We do provide a small honorarium to our student coaches (U13-U18) who assist with our grassroots program for 10 weeks during the summer. This helps support young leaders who are developing their coaching skills and giving back to the club. We also employ Leads, who run U5-U9 programming under the direction of our Technical Director and support youth teams when needed. These roles ensure consistent program quality and proper guidance across all age groups.

Do we offer courses for coaches / referees?

Coaching and referee education is available through independent providers and PEI Soccer, with options offered both in person and online. These courses give volunteers and developing officials the training they need to support players safely and confidently, and they align with the clubs broader goal of improving program quality across all age groups.

Are there vacancies in the executive / who runs the club?

The clubs executive team is made up of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, who oversee governance and major decision-making for RC United. These roles are supported by a broader group of board and director positions that help run programs, operations, and club initiatives throughout the year. There are often openings on the board or in director roles as the club grows and evolves. Anyone interested in getting involved or learning more is encouraged to contact executivecoordinator@rcunited.ca for current opportunities and details.

Do you offer family discounts?

Families with three or more children registering in our grassroots and/or youth programs are eligible for a family discount. To apply, please email executivecoordinator@rcunited.ca with the names and birth years of all players in your household.

Can I request to play on my friends team?

Players who want to be placed on the same team can submit a request by having a parent or guardian email executivecoordinator@rcunited.ca with both players names and their age division. The club will make every effort to accommodate these friend requests, but team placement cannot be guaranteed since balancing teams and maintaining fair competition remain priorities.
